Philosophy of Classroom Management
Creating a classroom community where students are highly motivated and actively engaged in learning is the cornerstone to my philosophy of classroom management. When students are motivated this directly translates into learning and a reduction of classroom disciple.
In my classroom, I integrate a method of teaching that is motivating to students through an active learning model. This student centered instructional model incorporates a positive environment of collaboration and guided inquiry to intrigue students with mathematics and the sciences. Thus, students are motivated to learn, which promotes an effective, productive classroom. With this in mind, the appropriate classroom set up for the daily objectives is an aspect of classroom management I believe enhances instruction.
Additionally, showing sincere interest in students’ hobbies and building equality and respect in the classroom allows for a customized classroom management approach to each student. This permits me to match a specific classroom management style to any distinct situation that occurs with a particular student. I am able to proactively manage the students because I have an understanding of the student’s background and potentially the reason behind the behavior.
By implementing these proactive strategies, I am able to minimize reactive strategies. However, I believe utilizing proximity and positive reinforcement to change student behavior without interrupting class is also crucial to a productive learning environment. When I employ classroom management concurrently with motivational strategies, a positive and encouraging classroom setting is achieved.
