My
first artifact is a thank you from a student a Van Buren Elementary School.
This is in regards to me attending and helping in 2013 at the annual Dr. Seuss
Reading Night Van Buren hosts in the spring. The second artifact is a picture
of myself and a group of sixth grade students from Ontario that participated in
our science lab day during the spring of 2013 that I volunteered for with Dr.
Saunders at The College of Idaho. My last artifact is a picture of a name plate I received for guest judging 8th grade science projects at Syringa Middle School in the spring of 2013.
I choose these artifacts because my volunteering and partnership with Van Buren Elementary School, Ontario Middle School and Syringa Middle School display how I am connected in the community and participate in activities that foster students’ education and welfare. Therefore, I placed these artifacts in standard 10, Partnerships, because they show how the teacher interacts in a professional, effective manner with colleagues, parents, and other members of the community to support students’ learning and well-being.
In reflecting on these opportunities, I have gained numerous realizations over the pass years while participating in these activities. First, through Van Buren reading night, I noticed how excited the kids were to win books and how many people were willing to wait in a long line for a free meal. As an interactive educator, I want to continuously able to serve the community around my school to support students and their families. I believe this is an important aspect for student’s to feel supported. Second, being able to be a mentor for students to look up to and hopefully influence to want to attend college in their future through partnership with Ontario High School program is an amazing opportunity that I am so glad I could be a part of. I realized how important it is to me for all students to believe that have the opportunity to go onto college and be successful. Through judging the science projects, I had an opportunity to view students high level work and accomplishments at a middle school level. Thus, I understand that I can hold high school students to a high level of achievement standards.
