Idaho State standard 1
knowledge of subject matter
The first artifact includes my Mathematics Content Knowledge Praxis exam score report from August, 2013. The second artifact is the score report from the Physical Science Content Knowledge from June, 2014. The third artifact contains my College of Idaho undergrad transcript from my senior year (’08 – ’09) of high school at Crook County High School to the fall term of my graduate year (’09 – ’14) at The College of Idaho.
I choose these artifacts because my Praxis scores display the growth of the understanding of the subject matter in my projected teaching field of Mathematics and my comprehension of the physical sciences, Chemistry and Physics. Additionally, my transcript illustrates my range of my knowledge in all of my teaching fields, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics, due to the large amount of classes I partook in at The College of Idaho. Therefore, I placed these artifacts in Standard 1, Knowledge of the Subject Matter, because they demonstrate how the teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the content area taught and creates learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for learners.
As it is shown from my performance on the Mathematics Content Knowledge Praxis, I received a Recognition of Excellence award for my score. This recognition is awarded to test takers who meet or exceed the target score determined by the top 15 percent of candidates who took the test in previous years. As shown in my transcript, my first year I did not initially fully understand how to be and encompass a college student mentality of knowing how to study and apply oneself. Prior to college, I had always easily received A’s on exams and never had learned how to study. However, I took this learning curve as an educational experience after my freshman year, and reapplied myself to intensively studying and learning my subject matter. This is shown through receiving the Recognition of Excellence award for content knowledge after years of academically striving for understanding and high achievement. I now have a higher understanding of a multitude of mathematical and chemical concepts along with a liberal arts background of various subjects.
