Philosophy of Education
As a teacher, I want to strive to create the opportunity for my students to be effective members of society through the knowledge gained within their educational experience. To accomplish this, I believe in promoting powerful student learning of valuable and influential experiences through utilizing personal knowledge and research-based instructional strategies. I believe students learn most effectively through inquiry based and active learning. I want to generate a classroom environment that promotes self-directed learners who engage in problem solving and critical thinking.
Another crucial detail of effective teaching is having a caring and critical pedagogy. A teacher who truly encompasses a caring pedagogy positively affects her students to the greatest potential and provides the opportunity for education and learning to thrive. A critical pedagogy allows me, as an educator, to be receptive, responsive, and reflective in my own practices.
I want to continue to grow as an educator by being a lifelong learner. This philosophy is important to me and my goal is to pass this onto my students by demonstrating the importance of continuing to investigate life, pursue knowledge, and wonder about the world around us. I have always had a passion for mathematics and the sciences, and I hope my enthusiasm is contagious to my students.
